Diamond Education
Diamond guide

The hardest substance on earth is the diamond. Heat or scratch does not damage diamonds and they can be cut or polished only by another diamond. Your diamond may chip when subjected to a severe blow. The best way to have your diamond intact all through your life time is to have your diamond in a protective setting and being conscious of it on your finger. Perspiration and household chemicals (like Chlorine and hairspray) can affect the glow on the surface of your diamond. When you clean your diamond at periodic intervals, they remain brilliant and refractive.

Diamond Education

The most important quality to consider in a diamond is the cut. Poor cut can result in a diamond with perfect clarity and color looking far less than its best. Too deep of a cut lowers the amount of light that is required to reflect brightness, while too shallow of a cut encourages light to pass under the diamond, resulting in a dull look. The common cut grades are from least to best- Fair, Good, Very Good, Ideal and Excellent.

Your diamond shape

The shape of each piece of diamond is very different. The quality of each individual diamond can be determined by its unique characteristics. E S Design Jewelry will always be glad to answer all your questions to help you select the specific shape of diamonds that best suits your aspirations and budget. This team of experts will guide you through the process of selection and help you identify the perfect diamond that you always wanted.

Round

The most popular and widely researched diamond shape available now is the round brilliant cut diamond. Optimization of the fire and brilliance in a round diamond is achieved by advanced theories of light behavior and precise mathematical calculations practiced for nearly 100 years now. The round diamond also gives you more flexibility in terms of balancing cut, color and clarity grades without compromising the fire and brilliance you are looking for.

Non-round shapes
Princess

Among the non-round shapes, princess ranks among the most popular. The unique cut and enchanting brilliance makes the princess a favorite engagement ring. This is square in shape and has pointed corners. Your choice of a color grade will take into account the exceptional price of a J-color non round diamond and the fact that color may be slightly visible in its corners. The princess cut diamonds can also vary sharply in how square or rectangular they are.

Emerald

The Emerald is unique for its pavilion, and is cut with rectangular facets to provide a distinct optical appearance. The larger, open table of this shape highlights the clarity of the diamond. If you are choosing an emerald-cut of a lower clarity grade, make sure to review the clarity plot on the diamond certificate. If you prefer an emerald cut with a squared outline, the Asscher-cut diamond will be the answer.

Asscher

Asscher is almost identical to the emerald-cut except that it is square. The pavilion of this shape is cut with rectangular facets and the style is the same as in the emerald-cut. The clarity plot on the diamond certificate will be the guiding factor for you to select the color grade.

Color

Not referring to colored diamonds, the white diamonds are most often considered the highest valued. The color grade ranges over the alphabet, listing the most clear such as a high grade D, to those of lesser value. The least of them is Z.

Clarity

Trained professionals are able to view the clarity of a diamond with the use of 10x magnification. When viewed from above, the level of clarity is determined by the presence of inclusions. This scale, having been set by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is a mandatory grading of this aspect of a diamond.

Carat

This is the mass or weight, of a diamond. Although size does have a definite impact on the value of the diamond, the true quality is determined by all of the above mentioned factors being in the best of their classes.

Fluorescence

Fluorescence is a unique effect that some customers may seek and the others avoid. Only a trained gemologist can detect the visible effects of fluorescence under specific UV light. A strong or very strong fluorescence grade can enhance a near colorless grade of diamond to look even whiter. In rare instances, a diamond with very strong fluorescence can lend the diamond a slight hazy or oily appearance. Diamonds with strong or very strong fluorescence will benefit the customer since the market puts their price a trifle lower than diamonds with faint or negligible fluorescence.

Certification

Agencies that exist solely for the purpose of certifying and verifying the full range of qualities of a high quality specimen, will present a certificate that entails an accurate and professional evaluation of the diamond. Each diamond is singly assessed as to the cut, clarity, weight, shape and color. Once the diamond is fully inspected, it is filed with this certification as a means of proof of quality for the prospective buyer.

The type of certificate noted in your purchase terms will notify you of which independent company performed the assessment. If there is no listing, there will be no certifications provided.

Care

Although diamonds are the known for being the hardest substance on Earth, once they are created as jewelry, their hardness is weakened. To keep your diamonds in the best condition, care should be taken when cleaning and storing them.

Cleaning and storage

We advise you to have your diamond jewelry cleaned by a professional jeweler annually to determine the setting as still secure. In between professional cleaning and when you wear your jewelry, you should clean it with a specialized solution of six parts water to one part ammonia. Any dirt should be removed with a soft scrubbing brush. When not being worn or displayed, your diamonds should be safely wrapped in soft pouches to minimized contact of other jewelry and to preserve a clear and clean surface.

How much to spend

This question perhaps will be the uppermost in your mind while selecting the best diamond for her. The event is absolutely emotional and the purchase is to last a lifetime. The important considerations for you should be quality and value. The intrinsic value of your selection is timeless and limitless. Nevertheless, gaining an idea of what kind of ring she would love will enhance the pleasure.

Make a very well informed decision while buying the diamond for your love. Select a reputed jeweler who can be relied upon and would be supportive to you. After all, you don’t buy diamonds every other day. The diamond you buy should create a strong bond between you and your love. Leave no stones unturned to make sure that you are getting the best value for your money.
